ASBA Election Timeline

\r\n

May 19 is the opening of the candidate signature petition circulation period for school districts using a Fall election cycle. Candidates may submit their petitions, affidavits of eligibility, and political practices pledges to the county clerk. The candidate filing period begins on August 9 and closes at noon on August 16. The Fall election will be held on November 14.

\r\n

The Fall 2023 School Board Election timeline is as follows:

\r\n

May 19: Candidate petition circulation period opens (90 days prior to the close of the candidate filing period)

\r\n

August 9: Candidate filing period opens. (97 days prior to the election)

\r\n

August 16: Candidate filing period closes at noon. (90 days prior to the election)

\r\n

September 5: Deadline to notify county clerk of millage information due to the deadline falling on a weekend and Monday being a holiday. (72 days prior to the election)

\r\n

September 15: Deadline to publish the proposed budget. (60 days before the election)

\r\n

November 7: Early voting begins.

\r\n

November 14: Annual School Election Day. (second Tuesday in November)

\r\n

Due to the passage of Act 305 of 2023, write-in candidacy is no longer an option so an individual wishing to run for the school board in the Fall will need to collect the necessary signatures and submit their petition during the filing period.
