Blytheville Middle School’s Family Night will be Feb. 27 in the school’s cafeteria, with chili served at 5 p.m. and the Black History Month program at approximately 5:45 p.m. The Family Night’s theme is “Remembering the Past, Focusing on the Future”.
The program, according to coordinator Elizabeth Williams, will feature multiple acts. It will include “stepping and strolling” from several different black fraternities and sororities, and the students are working with coach Donald Hunt and parent volunteer Anne Foreman. Students are also preparing a dance that will be choreographed by a student leader with supervision by BMS teacher Ebony Wells-Brown. BMS teachers Breanna Franklin, Devin Chambers and LaToya Riley are helping students prepare a game show featuring facts about Black History, and are also helping students prepare a few reading excerpts.
“I am helping a group of students prepare songs for the program,” Williams stated. “They have chosen ‘Glory’ by John Legend featuring Common, and ‘Break Every Chain’ by Tasha Cobbs. A student will also be playing the piano, accompanying the students who are singing.” Another feature during the program is a fashion show that is being directed by assistant principal Louise Davis. Davis is asking community members to participate in the show.
