Blytheville's Most Successful!

PBIS Events for the Spring

My name is Brett Kirk and I am new the strength and conditioning of our high school football program. Hopefully some of you have noticed on Facebook that, with the help of Casey DeFord, we have started up a GoFundMe page in order to raise money that will go towards buying protein supplements for our boys during the upcoming off-season through MuscleMilk.
Just to give you a little background about our teams in the past few years, I would start by saying that we are fighting an up-hill battle. We are undersized and undermanned in almost every game we play. In quite a few games this year, we were outweighed at 90% of our positions by anywhere from 20-50 lbs. To some that may not seem like much, but to our coaches and kids it's a very hard task to overcome. And numbers wise, in terms of enrollment, we are actually the size of a 4A school playing in a 5A classification. Not only do our players face these things, but it's also tough going through grind of going to school during the day and having to practice afterwards off of the very little sustenance that we are allowed to give them at breakfast and lunch. We do have a program through a local church in town that brings a snack for each athlete after practice, but again it's just not enough for most of our players after a full day and tough workout or practice.
This leads to my next point. Two of the biggest things, in terms of working out, with getting bigger, stronger and faster, is one's diet and sleeping habits. We all know about the poverty level that most of our kids face and with that comes a diet that we are unable to have much control over, as much as being able to tell them when it's time to go to bed. But one thing that we are hoping to be able to control, with your help, is the introduction of protein at the right time. Research suggests that you have a 30 minute window after workout to introduce protein into the body to max out its benefits. By doing this, you help limit soreness and fatigue from having too little protein and speed up the process of repairing micro-tears in the muscle that will be suffered during a workout. This leads to muscles becoming stronger, greater muscular endurance and quicker recovery times between workouts.
Our goal is to raise $7,000 to fund this campaign, which will hopefully get us through to the start of next season, depending on our numbers. If 350 people, which is less than what we have employed in our district, in a town of 12,000 were to donate $20, then we would meet our goal. And if we can spread the word though Facebook and other social media outlets to the public, then I have no doubt that we could blow this thing out of the water. So please help us in whatever way you can, whether it be a donation or spreading the word, and let's come together for our football team in a positive light and show the them the support that they deserve and need.
